Prince Edward the silver fox is ready for his close up! Did you know that the "silver fox" is simply a melanistic (meaning having mostly black hairs) variety of the red fox, which is native to the US and other countries? More commonly know examples of melanism in the animal world are black leopards or jaguars, which are actually melanistic versions of this usually spotted species. This color variant in the red fox is very popular for the fur industry and while we'll agree that our foxes are gorgeous (especially in the winter when their coats are at their fullest), we much prefer their fur on THEIR body as opposed to on a human!
